Biography

 

Scott Wichael is a talented and versatile American tenor whose career spans a wide range of operatic roles and concert performances. Praised for his expressive voice and dynamic stage presence, Wichael has appeared in over 35 roles across various opera companies throughout the United States.

His recent roles have included Nick in La Fanciulla del West with North Carolina Opera, Steuermann in Der Fliegende Holländer with Painted Sky Opera, and Monostatos in Die Zauberflöte with North Carolina Opera. Other highlights include the role of Raphael in Stewart Copeland’s oratorio Satan’s Fall with Pepperdine University, and Herod in Salomewith Rimrock Opera. He has also performed with the Miami Music Festival Wagner Institute, where he sang Mime in Das Rheingold.

Notable past performances include Sancho Panza in The Man of La Mancha with Asheville Lyric Opera and Indianapolis Opera, and the North American premiere of the Welsh opera Blodwen as Hywell Ddu with Rimrock Opera. Wichael has been involved in some memorable debut performances, such as his 2014 role as Little Bat in Susannah with St. Petersburg Opera, which earned a DVD release hailed by Opera News as one of the best of 2017. Other roles with companies like The Lyric Opera of Kansas City, Tulsa Opera, and Des Moines Metro Opera include Spoletta in Tosca, Pang in Turandot, and The Spirit of the Masque in Gloriana.

In addition to his operatic work, Wichael is an active concert soloist. He has performed in major choral works such as Beethoven's 9th Symphony, Handel's Messiah, and Mozart's Requiem, as well as Rachmaninov’s The Bells and Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass.
